Spending the afternoon tinkering with a car configurator is a great way to pass the time during a short holiday week, especially when a car manufacturer offers you hundreds of thousands of options to choose from. Porsche’s configurator is usually quite thorough, and the same goes for the new Cayenne EV. But there’s an interesting detail hidden within it.:A key fob configurator. Porsche has offered custom key fobs to customers in the past, and admittedly, you can customize your fob for other models, like the Macan EV. But the options on the Cayenne EVs key fob configurator are insane. With that, my goal was to make the tackiest, gaudiest key fob imaginable. Based on the photos you see here:Mission accomplished. Under the Interior section, where it says Keys, Floor Mats, and Owner’s Manual Wallets, Porsche offers three different customizable key fob options. The first is a standard painted vehicle key with a leather pouch. By clicking the Personalize tab, you get 12 fairly understated color options for the key itself, a choice of leather or Race-Tex for the case, and some stitching color options for the lanyard. That’s essentially it. This option costs an additional $510. For the same price, the personalized car key offers a few more color options—but it’s still nothing particularly remarkable. It’s only when you choose the custom car key option for $770 that you really get a wide array of colors, textures, and possibilities. You can choose from three materials for the upper shell:Leather, Race-Tex, or paint. If you choose paint, Porsche offers 16 colors, including some unusual options like Ruby Star Neo or Python Green. I went with the latter this time. The bottom shell is made of the same material and has all the same paint options—plus a few additional ones. In this case, choosing leather for the bottom shell unlocks Aquamarine Blue, the color shown here. As far as we can tell, there are no limits on combinations, which is a good thing. Once you choose the colors for your outer shell, you can move on to the fob itself. Even here, Porsche lets you customize the top and bottom shells in leather, Race-Tex, or paint, with up to 16 options. In the name of science, lets pick orange leather for the top half and Guards Red paint for the bottom half. Beautiful. The key case comes in 12 color options for the top part and 14 more colors for the pinstripe. Limestone Beige and Ruby Star Neo is a great combination in my opinion. For the lanyard, you can choose between Porsche or Cayenne text, with five subtle colors. For this example, we’ll go with Red. The actual lanyard itself comes in 12 more color options, while the accent stitching is available in 19 different colors. The final result is probably something Porsche wouldn’t want us sharing online. Of course, you don’t have to go to the same extreme we did; Porsche offers thousands of tasteful combinations to suit the style of your next electric Cayenne. But if you really want to go all out, you can—assuming you have an extra $770 to spend on top of the $111,350 starting price of the new Cayenne EV.
